Manufacturer Info
Weathercraft® began in spring 1988 as a very small part time business making Adirondack Chairs in a woodworking shop located in Cape Hatteras, NC., with the help of the founders dad. In 1989 the founder Bill Palmer opened a small 2400 sq. ft. woodworking shop, still as a part time business, where he resided in Asheboro, North Carolina.
By the following year word was out. The demand for these quality handcrafted Adirondack chairs was growing, and with only three part time employees helping to meet order fulfillment. Adirondack rockers, double seater (Tête-à-têtes), and accent pieces like side tables and footrests had also been brought into the line up.
In 1998, Weathercraft® moved into a 7200 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. We then designed and introduced Swings and also Adirondack Furniture in two color finishes, white and forest green followed by yellow, blue, and red. By 2001, we quickly learned that adding additional colors with a little pop and pizzazz was a big boost for business. In 2001 we also introduced Adirondack chair cushions which added an extra level of comfort to an already comfortable chair. Accepting only the best in outdoor fabrics, we gained the ability to purchase direct from Glen Raven Mills; the makers of Sunbrella® Outdoor Fabrics. Another exceptional fabric line we later added is Sunfield® Outdoor Fabrics which we have found to stand up equally as well.
In 2002 we purchased and moved into and now own our current manufacturing facility of nearly 9000 sq. feet., having previously been occupied by a nationally known upholstery furniture manufacturer. We also own the adjacent 9700 sq. ft. building in the event of future expansion.
