About the Alder Cal-King Heritage Raised Panel Bed (61399):

The Alder Cal-King Heritage Raised Panel Bed offers a traditional platform design.  This bed ships unfinished or in your choice of 14 stains, 12 matte paint options, and 1 gloss paint option.  The platform style provides a firmer and more supportive base for your mattress.  The tall, paneled headboard makes a strong statement in any bedroom. In addition, the low footboard provides the perfect space for large duvets, comforters, and quilts.  Made from Alder hardwood, the lower height of this King Shaker bed allows for easy accessibility.  It pairs well with any of the pieces in the Heritage Collection, but is versatile enough to combine with other pieces as well.

All Archbold platform beds feature a redesigned platform rail system.  This new design replaces the need for a plywood support panel. All slats are nested between guide cleats, in order to ensure that each slat is securely held in the optimal location.  Additionally, 12 slats will be secured to the the rails providing support for the mattress and added strength to the assembled bed.  An additional foot in the middle of the bed frame provides center support.

Wood Species

Alder is a relatively soft, medium-density hardwood that is easy to work with and has good finishing properties. A relative of birch, the wood features a fairly straight-grain with a uniform texture. It can be sanded, painted, or stained and dries easily.  When stained, it blends well with walnut or cherry.  It is them most abundant hardwood in the Pacific Northwest.
